Racing
During 2009 the workload on Glyn and time required to give racing a fair shot finally got too much and Glyn`s racing days were going to be very limited, Not one to do things by half we decided that the racing must take second place to the running of the scooter shop , BUT there’s always a BUT.
We are now the Proud sponsors of Craig Neve, Craig 18 resides in Immingham and Has been racing for the past 2 seasons with tremendous success.
This year will see us competing in the Thundersport GB junior super stock 600cc class on a 2007 Yamaha YZF R6, Despite being on one of the older bikes on the Grid Craig has done a fantastic job or pushing towards the front, Not ones to stand still the Scooter shop have bought Craig an 09 R6 to compete in the British Superbikes Junior Super stock Class 2010. The 2010 Bike is currently being Prepped by Andy Neve of ANR performance and the Scooter shop; big thanks must go to ANR for all the tuning goodies fitted to the bike to Get Craig Competitive as quickly as possible.
Craig will be posting a few Race reports to this page so please come back and check on the young Fliers Progress.
Busy month for Craig
18year old local racer Craig Neve has had a busy month competing in his usual club championship and also competing at world superbikes and last week’s moto gp at Donnington Park.
26th-28th may (wsb Donnington Park)
we kicked off on Friday with qualifying, it was a bit of a rush job we didn’t get a lot of track time and we had things like suspension and gearing to sort out..
I finished qualifying feeling very frustrated as the gearing was wrong and couldn’t get drive out of any corners and felt as though I was in-between the gears all the time, I was topping it out halfway down the straight and having to roll off costing me time.
I came in and we made the appropriate changes taking 2 teeth off the rear sprocket and putting 2 turns of preload on the forks as the suspension was bottoming out. I qualified 19th out of 39 which I was happy enough with considering but there was plenty of room for improvement.
Saturdays race wasn’t too bad I was well down on the grid. I got a fairly good start and made up about 5 places and got shoved wide at redgate costing me lots of places, I managed to work my way back up the field and finished 13th but put in my best time of the weekend so far and the gearing was better but was having problems with the rear suspension as I felt I couldn’t get on the gas soon enough at the Melbourne loop and Goddard’s, but when I pitted in we made the relevant changes and we hoped that we went the right way as there was no time 2 try it.
Sundays race was a improvement got a decent start again and made a few places up and then a few more and spent a bit too long messing around with the group in front which allowed the faster lads too get away and I couldn’t tag onto them, at the end of the 10 lap race I finished in 8th which was a fair result I thought and the weekend wasn’t too bad I took away more experience and learnt about my bike and suspension set up.. roll on motogp!!
25th-26th July (motogp Donninton Park)
a few of the super stock riders got invited to the motogp formula 600 race i was one of them, i new that this would be a tall order as I am running a fairly stock 2006 r6 and I would be up again fully sorted super sport bikes also a few national riders turned up 2 which made me want 2 rise to the challenge more..
At this meeting we got even less track time we only had 1 qualifying session and 1 15lap race.
after the motogp had been out on Saturday we were straight out the track was wet but had a drying line.. I put a couple of banker laps in first and then decided to pull the pin, I felt as though a put in a few decent times and was hoping for a top 20. I qualified 12th I was happy enough with that and the bike felt perfect all session.
Sunday was race day and we were the last race of the day 5.15 after the motogp had finished.
it was spitting and it was up in the air about what tyre decision to make turns out the majority of the field choose wets and it turned out the right choice. the race started and I got a great start was in about 7th before the first corner and thought I was in for a good race as we were exiting redgate someone high sided right in front of me and his bike was spinning in the part of the track I was heading for panicking I had to slam the anchors on quickly I managed to stop the bike but had lost loads of places i must of been about 30th I started to pick my way back through passing a rider or 2 per lap until the flag dropped and I was classified 10th and was 3rd superstock bike, my lap times were quicker than 5th position so I was fairly dissapointed with how it turned out but that’s racing.
